Prince enlisted him as a keyboard player for the Academy-award winning film, Purple Rain. Paul then became lead vocalist for the Prince produced group, The Family. Prince wrote "Nothing Compares to U" for The Family's 1985 debut album.
After The Family, Paul become a solo artist recording for MCA and Atlantic Records. He has recorded, toured, or written with Steve Miller, Peter Frampton, Daryl Hall, Prince, George Benson, Oleta Adams, The Corrs, Kenny Loggins, and Morris Day and The Time, to name just a few.
Following 90 minutes of music and stories, Lori and Paul will be joined by music journalist, radio host, and author Andrea Swensson. From 2008 - 2012, Andrea was music editor at City Pages. Following that, she moved to Minnesota Public Radio to found The Current Blog. In 2015, she created The O.K. Show podcast and was named host and producer of The Local Show where she spent six years exploring the Minnesota music scene.
Andrea's first book, Got to Be Something Here: The Rise of the Minneapolis Sound, chronicles the Twin Cities funk and soul scene from the 1950s - 1970s and traces a generation of political upheaval, racism, and artistic passion that paved the way for Prince. Currently, Andrea hosts and co-produces the Official Prince Podcast in collaboration with the Prince Estate, The Current, Warner Records, and Sony Legacy.
