Loring Park Neighborhood Safety Block Club - This Thursday, July 14 at 5:30 pm

A dozen neighbors and Woman's Club members met last Thursday and walked together throughout Loring Park and up and down Oak Grove.

Here are some highlights from our walk:

  • We greeted and made conversation with numerous neighbors and visitors in the park.

  • We stopped by the dog park where we explained our mission and objectives and invited neighbors to join our weekly walks.

  • Following 1st Precinct Crime Prevention Specialist, Renee Allen’s advice, we educated ourselves and others on motor vehicle thefts and thefts from motor vehicles in the neighborhood and shared safety tips to help prevent these crimes.

  • We walked the whole of Oak Gave - both sides - where we greeted neighbors.

  • Throughout our walk, we distributed our Block Club flyer.

  • We were warmly received at the Oak Grove Grocery where we were invited to hang our flyer on the bulletin board. We will stop by here every week to nurture the relationship.

  • We decided that after some time, we will do a special daytime walk to introduce ourselves and our mission and objectives to businesses in the neighborhood that are normally closed in the evenings.

  • We picked up litter.

  • We helped the neighborhood, we got to know each other a bit, we took some light exercise, and we had some fun.

The next walk is Thursday, July 14 at 5:30 pm. We will meet at the Woman’s Club at 5:30 pm where first-time walkers can get their free Block Club t-shirt and a water and have a safe place to store personal items while out walking.
