Tuesday Program: Wigs for the Theater

Event Date: Tuesday, October 2, 2018
Event Time: 11:00 am

Guest Speaker: Laura Stearns Adams

Laura Stearns Adams has been with the Guthrie on and off for 28 years and is just starting her 5th season as Wig Master. She has worked both onstage and off around the country for more than 35 years, as an actor, stage manager, designer, wig maker, choreographer and director, but spends the majority of her time now running the Wig Department at the Guthrie.

Laura is responsible for managing the wig shop staff and all operations of the Wig Department. She is the in-house wig designer and works in conjunction with the Costume Designers for each of the Guthrie produced shows to facilitate the costume designer’s vision for the show. She builds wigs and facial hair, interprets research to create and design the hair for everyone in the shows, teaches the people doing the maintenance for the shows how to recreate the look of the show on a day-to-day basis, and is responsible for the ongoing continuity of the look of the shows so they will look the same from the first performance to the last.

Laura will bring some of the materials that she uses in constructing wigs, share information about the design process and bring some wigs from previous productions so you can see them up close.

The Tuesday Program is a Club tradition to educate, inspire and entertain our Members and guests. Coffee and tea are served at 10:30 am in the Lounge, followed by a Guest Speaker in the Ballroom at 11:00 am and lunch in the Dining Room at 12:00 pm. The cost for lunch is $18.00 plus tax and service charge ($23.28, inclusive of tax and service). Reservations are not necessary.
