Tuesday Program - Mozart in the Morning: Timeless Music with Modern Interpretations

Event Date: Tuesday, April 9, 2019
Event Time: 11:00 am

Guest Speaker: Crystal Manich

Join Mill City Summer Opera's (MCSO) Artistic Director Crystal Manich for an engaging conversation on Così fan tutte–Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's comedic masterpiece and also his "most controversial." Selected arias from Così will be performed, adding further insight to Mozart's music. Mozart was a master at holding up a mirror to society and Così stresses the human desire to achieve fidelity in romantic relationships–and its precarious nature.

Now in their 8th season, MCSO will showcase this comic-drama opera, sung in Italian, in postwar ruins looking at the direct impact of war on young people who, out of desire to escape, are sucked into romantic farces that lead to mistaken identity and uncontrollable confusion.

Crystal is an international director whose work has been seen across the United States, Argentina, and Australia. From opera to short films, she creates a diverse body of work year after year. She will direct both productions of MCSO's summer season. In February, Crystal directed the Boston premiere of Gluck's Paride ed Elena at Odyssey Opera, where critics hailed it as a "winning and amusing production."
