Meet the Artist Reception: Melody Allen
Melody Allen is a retired academic surgeon who paints pastel landscapes depicting scenes for which Melody has a personal and emotional connection, derived from time spent on the shores of Minneapolis' chain of lakes or on the beaches of Southern California. Her exhibit is titled "Water, Light & Shadow: Minnesota Shorelines and California Coast" and will be shown from September 10 – November 10.
Melody's landscapes are created using soft pastel on sandpaper, which allows her to achieve a more painterly effect with multiple layers of brilliant pigment. The interplay of light and shadow is the central focus of all of her works, whether it is dappled sunlight filtering through lush foliage, reflections on the surface of Minneapolis lakes and lagoons, or the sun's rays bouncing off a translucent cresting wave.
Melody's works have been recognized with many prestigious awards. She has been represented by galleries in California and the esteemed Groveland Gallery in Minneapolis.
